Concerts in St. Charles’ Church- Vivaldi’s Four Seasons

Discover Vivaldi's most famous masterpiece 'Four Seasons' on authentic baroque instruments in the glorious St. Charles' Church in Vienna.

The Orchestra 1756 has the honor of offering a high-quality series of concerts since quite some years now, inside this architectural jewel. When you’re in Vienna, it is really worth visiting these concerts!

The repertoire of the 1756 Orchestra is based on two of the most acclaimed works of all time: Mozart's Requiem and Vivaldi's Four Seasons. The members of the orchestra are experts in the field and thanks to their great artistic abilities and enthusiasm, they manage to transport the spirit of Mozart and Vivaldi into the present. You can hardly experience a classical concert in a more intense, atmospheric or authentic way anywhere else in the city.

Vivaldi: "Four seasons"

Orchestra 1756 and soloists  (in period instruments)

It is very likely that the fields of Mantua in Italy, where he lived from 1717 to 1719, served as inspiration to maestro Vivaldi to compose his "Four Seasons“. The work was a musical revolution in its conception. Never before have sounds of nature or everyday life accompanied by descriptive sonnets been presented with such success.

When Antonio Vivaldi moved to Vienna in 1740, three years after the completion of the St. Charles Church, he probably also fell in love with this extraordinary and sacred building. He lived near the theatre of the Imperial Court and it was there, unfortunately, where he began to impoverish. Vivaldi died in July 1741 and was buried near the Church of St. Charles.

The best tribute that can be paid to any composer is to represent his works with as much sensitivity and delicacy as the Orchestra 1756 does. Enjoy the amazing performances of Vivaldi's famous violin's concerts performed with baroque instruments.
