Concerts in the Saint Peter's Church

Any day is a good day to enchant you with classical concerts by the Classic Ensemble Vienna in the atmospheric St. Peter's Church.

Welcome to the classical music concerts in Vienna at the Peterskirche, one of the most magnificent Baroque churches in the city, built between 1701 and 1733 according to the plans of Lukas von Hildebrand. This location holds historical significance, as it was the site of the first church in our city in the 4th century, within the Roman camp of Vindobona (Vienna). Since then, religious services have been celebrated here. The Peterskirche is a spiritual focal point of the city, marked by liturgy, pastoral care, and music, attracting both locals and visitors.

The Classic Ensemble Vienna has also made its home here. Comprised of internationally renowned musicians with many successful performances in Austria, Mexico, the USA, Sweden, Germany, and more, they captivate audiences with beautiful interpretations of works by Mozart, Beethoven, Bach, Vivaldi, and many other composers, appealing to Viennese and international audiences alike.

We cordially invite you to embark on a delightful journey through time with us.

Venue

It is suggested that St Peter’s church is the oldest church building in Vienna and dates to the Early Middle Ages . Since nothing remained from the old church it is not a speculation if one considers this as the oldest church site in VIenna. Nevertheless, around 800 this old church was replaced with a Romanesque church with two aisles and a nave. This church was first mentioned as a church of Saint Peter in 1137. Around the 12th century it became a part of the Schottenstift.

The construction of the new St. Peter’s Church that we know today, was build in the beginning of the 18th century and was inspired by the St. Peter’s Basilica of the Vatican, The new church was the first domed structure in baroque Vienna. Due to the confinement of available space, it was built in a compact form, with its oval interior housing an astonishing amount of space and rectangular attachments. The church's interior has a lot of gold stucco.

Without doubts it is one of the most beautiful and frequented churches in Vienna. Liturgy, pastoral care and concerts make St. Peter's a spiritual focal point in the city for locals and foreigners alike - perhaps there is something for you too.
