W. A. Mozart, Requiem (KV 626)
W. A. Mozart's Requiem is one of the most moving works that classical music has to offer. The appealing fascination surrounding this masterpiece is further enhanced by the many myths associated with Mozart's last composition. The Requiem carries the strong emotions that come over people in the face of death: fear, anger, despair, sadness, hope, comfort.
In the historical and acoustically fascinating atmosphere of the famous St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna, you will also fall under the spell of Mozart's Requiem.
Already during his lifetime and also after his death, Mozart was strongly connected with St. Stephen's Cathedral: it was there that he married Constanze Weber, had two of his children baptized, and a few months before his death, Mozart applied for a Kapellmeister position at St. Stephen's Cathedral. Mozart's name can be found both in its death record protocol and in the Cathedral's so-called ’Book of Death Fees’.
St. Stephen's Cathedral is one of the most striking landmarks of Vienna and is an absolute must to visit on every trip to Vienna. The church with its unique atmosphere and history enchants visitors from all over the world every time anew.
